As announced in a press release made available to Cinefilles and journalists at the 2015 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour on Sunday, The CW has ordered additional seasons of Jane, Arrow, Reign, Supernatural, The 100, The Flash, The Originals and The Vampire Diaries.
“Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative quality programming targeting a savvy adult audience,” network president Mark Pedowitz explained in the release. “By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines.”
During a panel following the announcement, Pedowitz noted that while Jane, which began its first season to rave reviews last fall, hasn’t brought in huge numbers in comparison to other major network series in its Monday night timeslot, he considers it a hit and worth keeping around.
“Jane has actually performed,” he told journalists from the ballroom at Pasadena’s Huntington Langham Hotel. “It’s a quality show … just give it time. Let it sit and give it time.”
One show that wasn’t picked up on Sunday morning was Hart of Dixie. We shouldn’t read too much into that omission yet, though, as Pedowitz noted that unlike the lead in incoming Rob Thomas series iZombie, the Rachel Bilson-starring Southern dramedy dead yet.
“We were happy to have launched [the show] in December,” he said during the panel. “I think [showrunner] Leila [Gerstein] did a great job with the 10 episodes this year. There’s a great finale this year–a season finale. If it does end, we’d be happy one way or another.”
