If you’re a horror fan, we’re about to give you some sugar, baby. While attending the Starz panels at the 2015 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour on Friday afternoon, we overheard the latest scoop on the previously announced, Sam Raimi-produced and Bruce Campbell-starring Evil Dead TV series.
Speaking with the crowd of TV critics reporting live from Pasadena’s Huntington Langham Hotel, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht noted that Ash vs. The Evil Dead is not only absolutely on the way, but they already have a location picked out for shooting. The plan is to bring Raimi, Campbell and the rest of the to-be-announced cast to New Zealand, which already serves as the home for other established Starz series and could provide the kind of empty evil tree-filled landscape we saw in the original Evil Dead films and Army of Darkness.
In addition to revealing the shooting locale, Albrecht also confirmed that as despite some negative critical response to the concept, the show will be made up of 30-minute episodes instead of hour-long ones. He says the length will only add to the show’s excitement, promising we will get “a chock-full half-hour” of television every week.
What might be most exciting about the latest batch of Ash vs. The Evil Dead news, however, is the fact that we might be seeing the sure-to-be blood-soaked series saw through our primetime line-ups before this time next year. As per Albrecht’s comments Friday, the show will “most likely” debut around “the end of third quarter, fourth quarter [of the year].”
