THE GIST: Based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl we follow Mr. Fox, an urbane fox who cannot resist returning to his farm raiding ways. When the farmers set out for retaliation, Mr. Fox must help his family, friends and community survive.
THE CHARACTER: Well, it’s got to be Mr. Fox himself. The story revolves around the fantastic Mr. Fox and his family and friends, but his defiant personality, wickedly-clever schemes and his smooth, comforting voice really makes him stand out against the rest.
THE MUSIC: The ever-amazing Alexandre Desplat was brought on to compose music for the film. His original song “Boggis Bunce and Bean” is a re-occurring theme that really sets the tone for the adventurous shenanigans that take place. However, the moment that strikes a cord in the heart is the coda moment when the critters dance to “Let Her Dance” by The Bobby Fuller Four.
WHERE IT REALLY GOES WES: It’s pretty much all Wes from the start. From the mega-star cast to the subtle touches like the fonts, the colours and the balance. The story itself takes a turn into Wes-isms with the characters’ willingness to stare danger in the face, the comical spontaneity, the appreciation for dance and, lastly, the profound realizations about what matters most in life.
NOTABLE QUOTE:
